Kjeld Thorst, a Danish football player and manager, died on November 3, 2026, aged 86.
Born in Øster Svenstrup, he began playing in the youth ranks of Skovsgaard Boldklub before entering senior football with Ranum IF in Series 1 at 16. His route to AaB came in 1961, after fellow student Heini Hald, then a Ranum Seminarium classmate and future AaB teammate, recommended him to the club.
Thorst’s first appearance for AaB came on April 30 that year in a Danish Second Division fixture against Odense KFUM. He marked his debut with a hat trick, and his three goals helped AaB secure a 4–3 victory. He spent most of his playing career with AaB, becoming one of its leading forwards and serving as captain for many years. His 78 league goals set a club record, and he helped AaB win the 1965–66 Danish Cup. For Denmark, Thorst made 26 appearances between 1963 and 1969, scoring six goals, and represented the country at the 1964 European Nations’ Cup. After retiring as a player, he coached AaB from 1976 to 1977.
