Born in Huddersfield on August 21, 1935, he also played first-class cricket for Yorkshire and was noted as a strong player of spin and one of the finest cover fielders of his era. His medium-pace darts also served Yorkshire well, often unsettling partnerships for captains Vic Wilson and Brian Close.
