Kazuhiro Ninomiya Japanese judoka dead at age 79

Kazuhiro Ninomiya, a Japanese judoka, died on May 4, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, on November 28, 1946, he competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics after graduating from Tenri University and training under Isao Okano at the Shoki Juku. Ninomiya joined the Fukuoka Prefecture police force in 1972 and placed third in that year’s All-Japan Judo Championships.

He won gold medals at the 1970 Asian Judo Championships and the 1973 World Championships in Lausanne. He retired after the 1978 Jigoro Kano Cup, later serving as an adviser to local and prefectural judo committees and as a judo instructor.
