Jiří Nykodým, the Czech lawyer and Constitutional Court judge, died on July 30, 2026, aged 81.

A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Charles University in Prague, he earned his law doctorate there in 1969 and began his career as a judicial trainee at the Municipal Court in Prague before moving into advocacy. After 1972, he worked as a lawyer in Prague and later took part in legal study and advisory work within the Czech bar.

Following 1990, he helped prepare the country’s Advocacy Act and fee schedule and served on the board of the Czech Bar Association. In 1998, he joined the Government Legislative Council and also worked in Ministry of Justice groups on the general part of the new Civil Code and on family law. He served as a judge of the Constitutional Court from 2003 to 2013.
