Jerrold Zar, an American biologist and academic, died on April 2, 2026, at age 84.
He was Professor Emeritus at Northern Illinois University and had been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Zar earned a BS degree from Northern Illinois University in 1962, followed by an MS in 1964 and a PhD in 1967 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
He also wrote a widely cited textbook in biostatistics.
