Horst Helle, a German sociologist and academic, died on February 13, 2026.
He was Professor Emeritus at LMU Munich in Germany. Born on July 19, 1934, Helle received a business degree from the University of Hamburg, earned an MBA from the University of Kansas on a Fulbright Scholarship in 1956 and 1957, and later returned to Hamburg for a Ph.D.
in sociology and the license to teach as a Privatdozent. He held tenured professorships at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Vienna. His work focused mainly on the development of symbolic interactionism and the evolution of interpretive sociology.
