Gregory Karotemprel, an Indian East Syriac Catholic bishop and bishop emeritus of Rajkot, died on July 19, 2026, at the age of 93.

Known in church life as Mar Gregory Karotemprel, he served as bishop of the Eparchy of Rajkot from 1983 until his retirement in 2010. Born on May 6, 1933, in Chemmalamattam in Kottayam district, he joined the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, made his first profession in 1955, and was ordained a priest in 1963 after theological studies at Dharmaram Vidya Kshethram in Bangalore.

He later led the S.H. Province of the CMI congregation before taking up his long episcopal ministry in Rajkot.
