Gerald Talbot American politician and civil right leader dead at age 94

Gerald Talbot, an American politician and civil rights leader, died on May 9, 2026, at age 94.

A native of Bangor, Maine, he was born on October 28, 1931, and later became the first Black legislator to serve in the state of Maine. He was also the founding president of the Portland, Maine, chapter of the NAACP and served as president of the Maine State Board of Education under Governor Joseph Brennan.

Talbot lived in Portland, Maine.
