Geoff Keating, the British musician best known for his work with the vocal group The Master Singers, died on May 29, 2026, at the age of 88.
He was part of the four-man ensemble that emerged in the 1960s and specialised in comic a cappella recordings delivered in Anglican chant, turning everyday texts such as the Highway Code and weather forecasts into charting novelties. The group’s records “Highway Code” and “Weather Forecast,” both produced by George Martin, reached the UK singles chart in 1966.
Keating had been among the original teachers who recorded the Highway Code setting in 1963, a private project that later led to the group’s contract with Parlophone Records and a brief but distinctive run on record from 1963 to 1967.
