Caroline Marland dead at age 80, traffic collision

Caroline Marland, the British advertiser and newspaper managing director who worked for The Guardian, died on May 29, 2026, in a traffic collision.

Born Caroline Ann Rushton in Dublin in 1946, she was a retired businesswoman whose career included becoming the first female advertising director on Fleet Street. She spent 25 years with The Guardian, later retiring as managing director of Guardian Media Group.

Before that, she began in sales at The Yorkshire Post and later moved to The Times after being unable to secure a management role there.
