Geoff Dakin South African cricketer dead at age 90

Geoff Dakin, the South African cricketer who played for Eastern Province, died on May 4, 2026, aged 90.

Born in Port Elizabeth on August 13, 1935, Geoffrey Frank Dakin made his first-class debut for Eastern Province in 1952–53 at the age of 17. In six matches that season, he scored 279 runs as an opening batsman at an average of 23.25, with a top score of 47, and took 11 catches.

He later served as Eastern Province captain from 1957–58, a role he held for five seasons.
