François Patriat, the French politician who represented Côte-d’Or in the Senate and led the Senate group of Renaissance, died on August 19, 2026, aged 83.
Born in Semur-en-Auxois on March 21, 1943, he trained at the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort and worked as a veterinarian before entering politics. Patriat served as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in 2002 and later became president of the Regional Council of Burgundy, holding that post from 2004 to 2015.
Elected to the Senate in 2008, he became president of his party’s group there in 2017 after earlier affiliation with the Socialist Party and his move to La République En Marche! the same year.
