He was 85. Born Emilio Layon Bataclan on September 20, 1940, in Bantayan, Cebu, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1966 at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
Bataclan went on to serve in parish assignments in Daanbantayan, Bantayan Island, Alang-Alang, Mandaue, Bogo and San Nicolas between 1972 and 1995. Appointed auxiliary bishop of Cebu in 1990, he later became auxiliary bishop emeritus of the Latin Church archdiocese after resigning in 2015.
