Elizabeth Arnold, an American journalist who was NPR’s national political correspondent and later a professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, died June 18, 2026, of complications from endometrial cancer.
She was 66. Arnold worked in NPR’s Washington bureau from 1991 to 2006, covering national politics after joining the network as a reporter.
After 17 years with NPR, she returned to Alaska, where she became a tenured professor and chair of the Department of Journalism and Communication at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She also reported for KTOO and graduated cum laude from Colgate University. Among her honors were the Joan Shorenstein Barone Award from Harvard in 1994 and the duPont Columbia Silver Baton in 1994-95.
