Born in Krasnodar on November 4, 1975, he played as a left winger and represented Russia before retiring from the national team in 2012. Koksharov won the gold medal at the 1997 World Championships and later joined Celje from SKIF Krasnodar in the 1999–2000 season, at age 23.
