Depinder Singh, Indian army lieutenant general and commander of the IPKF, died on April 28, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in Punjab Province, British India, in 1930, he served as the overall commander of the IPKF in Sri Lanka from July 1987 to March 1990. Singh was military assistant to Sam Manekshaw from 1969 to 1973 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

He was conferred the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal, and wrote several books on his experience in the Indian army.
