
Dame Shirley Porter, British politician and former leader of Westminster City Council, died on May 4, 2026, aged 95.
She led the council from 1983 to 1991 and served as lord mayor of Westminster from 1991 to 1992. Born Shirley Cohen in Clapton, London, on November 29, 1930, she was a Conservative Party politician, philanthropist and magistrate.
She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1991.
