He was 84. West played defensive back for the Roughriders from 1962 to 1968 after attending the University of Arizona, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina on football scholarship.
A Grey Cup champion, he also earned three all-star selections and intercepted 17 passes. He was inducted into the Roughriders Plaza of Honor in 1997 and later served with the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and as a trustee for Regina School Division No. 4.
