Al Hurricane Jr., an American singer-songwriter, died on May 19, 2026, at age 66.
Born Alberto Nelson Sanchez Jr. in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 30, 1959, he was known professionally as Al Hurricane Jr.
and as “El Godson” of New Mexico music. He began performing at age five and made his first appearance at the Albuquerque Civic Auditorium with “Love Potion #9.” His career spanned from 1971 to 2026, and he worked in New Mexico music, Latin music, rock music, Norteño, Ranchera, country western, rock and roll, rockabilly, corrido and cumbia.
