Ciarán Ó Lionáird dead at age 38, Irish Olympic sprinter

Ciarán Ó Lionáird, an Irish Olympic sprinter who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, died on June 9, 2026, at age 38.

Born in Cork on April 11, 1988, he was an Irish runner who represented his country in the 1,500 metres at London 2012. Ó Lionáird also won bronze in the men’s 3,000 metres at the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

He studied at the University of Michigan and Florida State University, and later said he planned a return to competition after the COVID-19 lockdown.
