Catherine Millot, the French psychologist and academic, died on August 24, 2026, at age 81.
A Lacanian psychoanalyst and author, she taught psychoanalysis at the University of Paris-VIII after studying philosophy and moving into psychoanalysis. Beginning in 1971, she underwent an eight-year analysis with Jacques Lacan and attended his seminars until his death.
Her thesis became Freud anti-pédagogue, a book arguing that pedagogy could not be founded on psychoanalysis because the analyst’s openness to lack was incompatible with the teacher’s role. In 1983 she published Horsexe.
