Bilgesu Erenus, the Turkish playwright, screenwriter and activist, died on August 5, 2026, aged 82.

She began her career at the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation as a producer and scriptwriter before turning to playwriting in 1973, when El Kapısı was staged at the Ankara Art Theatre. Her early work addressed contemporary issues in Turkey and included İkili Oyun, Kaside and Güneyli bayan.

In later years, she wrote Çağrı, a 2004 play about the Dersim massacre, and Yaftali Tabut, a 2017 work on the life of playwright Fatma Nudiye Yalçı. Erenus was also politically active and was arrested or detained multiple times in connection with that activity.
