Benjamin Rader, an American historian and writer, died on August 6, 2026, aged 90.
Born on August 25, 1935, he attended West Plains High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University, a master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a PhD in American history from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1964. Rader went on to teach in the history department at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he was named the James L.
Sellers Professor of History in 1995. He also wrote Down on Mahans Creek: A History of an Ozarks Neighborhood, published by the University of Arkansas Press in 2017.
