Also known as Arpad Suciu, he was born in Oradea on March 16, 1943, and became a professional association football player. Szűcs came through the youth systems of Stăruința Oradea and Club Atletic Oradea, then made his Divizia B debut for Crișana Oradea in 1961 under Ferenc Rónay.

He went on to play in Romania‘s top flight for the same club the following year and later built a long career with teams from his hometown, including Bihor Oradea.
