Areski Belkacem, a French singer, musician and composer, died on June 1, 2026, at the age of 86.
Also known simply as Areski, he was born on January 23, 1940, in Versailles. His career began in 1968 and spanned nearly six decades, during which he worked as a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer, with credits that also included film acting and film scoring.
He was married to Brigitte Fontaine and had one child, Ali Belkacem.
