Alan Rothwell, the English actor and television presenter known for Coronation Street, Brookside and Heartbeat, died on May 14, 2026, aged 89.
Born in Oldham, Lancashire, on 9 February 1937, he played David Barlow in Coronation Street as a regular from 1960 to 1961 and again from 1964 to 1968, and later portrayed Nicholas Black in Brookside between 1985 and 1986. His other television work included Top Secret, a recurring role in Heartbeat from 1994 to 1995, and appearances in Doctors.
He also became known to younger viewers as a presenter on Picture Box from 1969 to 1989 and Hickory House from 1973 to 1978.
