Åke Axelsson, the Swedish interior designer and interior decorator, died on May 7, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born in Urshult on February 25, 1932, he developed an early skill in woodworking and first studied furniture making in Visby before continuing with an internship at a furniture factory in Munich. He later trained in interior decoration at Konstfack in Stockholm and worked for architectural firms from 1957 to 1961, including Peter Celsing’s office from 1959 to 1961.
Axelsson went on to establish his own interior design firm and received commissions for both private and public spaces, including interiors for the library of the Swedish Parliament, the Swedish Institute in Rome, Värmlands Museum, Stockholm School of Economics, Carlskrona Läsesällskaps Bibliotek, a room in the Royal Palace, and the historic restaurant Den gyldene freden.
