Raymonde Arcier, a French artist and feminist activist, died on May 7, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born in Bellac on Nov. 13, 1939, she grew up in a modest family and worked in an office while studying sociology at Paris 8 University.
A self-taught artist, Arcier joined the feminist movement and created oversized versions of shopping bags, floor cloths and other domestic items to underscore the significance of the tasks they represented. She also made knitted works using metal wires and exhibited them rarely.
