He was 91. Born in Huambo on September 5, 1934, Kamwenho was ordained a priest in 1961 and later held teaching and seminary posts in Nova Lisboa, now Huambo, before being made bishop.
An outspoken peace activist, he played an important role in the process that helped bring Angola’s civil war to an end in 2002 and chaired both the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé and the Ecumenical Committee for Peace in Angola. He received the Sakharov Prize.
