William Willard Gibson Jr., an American lawyer and legal scholar, died on June 1, 2026, at age 94.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, on March 5, 1932, he earned a B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954 and an LL.B.
with honors in 1956. While in law school, he was elected to the Order of the Coif and served as an editor of the Texas Law Review. After graduation, Gibson practiced with Gibson, Ochsner, Harlann, Kiney, & Morris in Amarillo before joining the University of Texas School of Law faculty in 1965 at the invitation of Dean W. Page Keeton. He taught there until 1998 and also served as dean of academic affairs.
