Born Walter Warfield Rock in Cleveland on November 4, 1941, he grew up in Ohio and attended Elyria High School before going on to play college football at the University of Maryland. Rock was an offensive lineman in the National Football League and spent part of his career with the Washington Redskins, where he was a member of the “Over-the-Hill Gang” and played in Super Bowl VII.
His NFL career lasted 12 years before injuries to his right ankle brought it to an end.
