Tony Mundine, the Australian boxer who was among the country’s most accomplished Indigenous fighters, died on August 30, 2026, aged 75.

Born Anthony William Mundine in Baryulgil, New South Wales, on June 10, 1951, he became the only Australian boxer to compete professionally in four weight divisions. His career included Australian titles at middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight, along with Commonwealth titles at middleweight and light heavyweight.

Mundine also challenged for the WBA world middleweight title in 1974. He was the father of former world champion boxer Anthony Mundine.
