Tofail Ahmed, a Bangladeshi politician who served in parliament for more than five decades and held ministerial posts in the industries and commerce portfolios, died on June 1, 2026.
He was 82. Born on October 22, 1943, in Bhola, then in the Bengal Presidency of British India, he represented Bhola-1, Bhola-2 and Bakerganj-1 in the Jatiya Sangsad across seven terms from 1973 to 2024.
Ahmed served as Bangladesh’s minister of industries from 1996 to 2006 and later as minister of commerce from 2014 to 2019.
