Stephen Lowe, the British Anglican prelate who served as Bishop of Hulme from 1999 to 2009, died on June 25, 2026.
Born on March 3, 1944, he was ordained deacon in 1968 and priest in 1969 before later becoming Archdeacon of Sheffield, a post he held from 1988 to 1999. In the Church of England, he also served as Link Bishop for Namibia and chaired the Urban Bishops Panel.
In 2006, he was released from all pastoral oversight in the diocese so he could concentrate on his appointment as the Church’s first Bishop for Urban Life and Faith, a role created to promote the findings of the Faithful Cities report.
