Zamrik, a Syrian–American mechanical engineer and emeritus professor at Pennsylvania State University, died on June 18, 2026, at the age of 93. Also known as Sam Yusuf Zamrik, he was recognized for work in high pressure technology and fracture mechanics and for serving as president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007-08.
Born in Syria in 1932, Zamrik came to the United States in 1950 and studied first at the University of Texas System before earning graduate degrees at Pennsylvania State University. He joined Penn State in 1962 and later rose through the faculty ranks to become professor in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics before retiring and being named professor emeritus in 1998.
