Randal Marlin dead at age 88, Canadian academic

Randal Marlin, a Canadian academic and philosophy professor at Carleton University, died on May 15, 2026, at the age of 88.

He specialized in the study of propaganda and was known for his work on the ethics of persuasion. Born in Washington, D.C., on January 22, 1938, Marlin was educated at Princeton University, McGill University, the University of Oxford, Aix-Marseille University, and the University of Toronto.

He wrote Propaganda and the Ethics of Persuasion, first published in 2002 and revised in 2013, and also authored The David Levine Affair: Separatist Betrayal or McCarthyism North? in 1998.
