Ramón Luis Rivera, the Puerto Rican politician who served as mayor of Bayamón from 1977 to 2001, died on September 30, 2026, at age 97.
A native of Aguas Buenas, he was affiliated with the New Progressive Party and later became one of Bayamón’s most prominent political figures. Rivera also served in the United States Army, including during the Korean War, before moving into elected office as a member of the Municipal Assembly of Bayamón in 1968 and then as a representative for District 6 in 1972.
