Rabilal Tudu dead at age 76, Indian Santali-language writer and Padma Shri awardee

Rabilal Tudu, an Indian Santali-language writer, playwright and banker, died on June 4, 2026, at the age of 76.

Born in 1949 in Nowara village in Bardhaman district, West Bengal, he was known for his work in Santali literature and drama, including plays for stage and radio. Tudu received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015 for his contribution to Santali writing and was later honoured with the Padma Shri in 2026 for his work in literature and education.

His notable work included Parasi Khatir.
