Born in Catania on October 12, 1941, he became a central figure in Italian experimental theatre, working as an actor, director and playwright. Active from the 1960s, he helped shape the country’s avant-garde stage scene and pursued an artistic search informed by historical avant-gardes.
He collaborated with figures including Carmelo Bene, Leo de Berardinis and Julian Beck, and later founded Meta-Teatro, a company and theatrical space devoted to contemporary production and promotion. After his first stage appearances in Rome in 1969 with Giancarlo Nanni in L’imperatore della Cina and A come Alice, he made his directorial debut in 1971 with Evento-Collage n. 1.
