Philippe Caillard, the French choral conductor, died on September 8, 2026, aged 102.
Born in Paris, he also worked as a professor of music education, a technical and pedagogical adviser to the Ministry of Youth, and a publisher of choral music. Caillard made about 30 recordings for Erato Records, 15 of which received a Grand Prix du Disque.
He specialised in choir direction and pedagogy, founded a vocal ensemble that bore his name, and later expanded a repertory that began with Renaissance works, while also transcribing and editing ancient vocal music.
