Griffiths taught chemistry at Ohio University from 1972 to 1982, where he was named a distinguished professor in 1980, and later spent seven years on the faculty at the University of California, Riverside. His career also included work with Ellis R. Lippincott’s laboratory at the University of Maryland, College Park, and at Digilab, Inc. He was widely identified with chemistry research and scholarship in the United States as well as in his native Britain.
