Born in Saint Boniface, Manitoba, on April 11, 1940, he was known in the sport as one of Manitoba’s leading curlers during the 1960s and 1970s. Meleschuk, whose full name was Orest Bohdan Meleschuk and who was nicknamed “The Big O,” captured major championships in 1972, when he won the Manitoba, Canadian and world titles.
He also took part in the first Battle of the Sexes curling match, losing to Vera Pezer’s team.
