Olivier Lebas, the French naval officer who served as a vice-admiral, died on August 12, 2026, aged 62.
Born in Boulogne-sur-Mer on June 24, 1964, he joined the French Navy in 1987 after earning an engineering degree from the Institut catholique d’arts et métiers. He later served in foreign deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Kosovo, and was noted for landing a heavily damaged fighter jet on the aircraft carrier Foch.
Lebas also served aboard the Clemenceau and was awarded the Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit.
