Cordula Trantow, the German actress and director known for Die Brücke, Hitler and The Castle, died on August 12, 2026, aged 83.
Born in Berlin on December 29, 1942, she began acting in the 1950s and drew international attention as a teenager for her role as Franziska in the 1959 anti-war film Die Brücke. Her performance in the 1962 Hollywood film Hitler, in which she played Geli Raubal, brought a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer – Female.
Trantow later declined further Hollywood opportunities, instead building her career in German theatre and television and eventually turning to directing. She also founded the Weilheimer Theatersommer and was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
