Nuno Cardoso, the Portuguese engineer and politician who served as president of the Porto Municipal Chamber from 1999 to 2002, died on September 7, 2026, aged 64.

Born Nuno Magalhães da Silva Cardoso in Peso da Régua on October 31, 1961, he studied engineering at the University of Porto, where he also taught planning. In 1990, Fernando Gomes appointed him as an adviser at Porto’s city hall, and he later helped shape the city’s transport strategy and the planning of the Metro do Porto network.

In 1996, he was named president of Águas do Douro e Paiva before taking over the Porto municipality when Gomes left for government service.
