Nael Abu Obeid, a Palestinian militant commander with Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades, died on September 15, 2026, aged 53, after being killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip.
Also known as Nayal Abu Obeid or Nael Obeid, he served as commander of the Rafah Brigade and headed the group’s military wing operations array. He had previously been deputy commander of the Rafah Brigade and commander of the Tel al-Sultan and Yibna battalions.
According to the account of his death, he was killed in Khan Yunis, while the Israeli military said he had overseen brigade activities and directed attacks against Israeli troops and civilians.
