Born in Ljubljana on October 30, 1928, he worked across several theatre disciplines, including direction, сценography, costume design and dramaturgy, and also taught as a retired professor at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana. He studied architecture, which informed his understanding of space on stage, and he was known for productions of Slovenian and international classical drama that won major theatre awards and festival recognition in Slovenia and across the former Yugoslavia.
In later life, he also turned to playwriting, including Svetovalec: katalog burlesknih dialogov in 2016 and Sveti mož: postmeščanski igrokaz in 2017.
