Smith, the English cricketer who played for Leicestershire, Warwickshire and England, died on May 17, 2026, aged 92. Born Michael John Knight Smith on 30 June 1933 in Westcotes, Leicestershire, he was educated at Stamford School and St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he read geography. He played for Leicestershire from 1951 to 1955 and for Warwickshire from 1956 to 1975, captaining the county side from 1957 to 1967. Smith appeared in 50 Tests for England and captained the team in 25 of them.
