Knut Midgaard

Knut Midgaard, a Norwegian political scientist, died on March 29, 2026.

Born in Oslo on February 11, 1931, he first studied the history of ideas and graduated with the mag.art. degree in 1959.

He was among the proponents of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs in 1958 and was briefly a lecturer at the University of Oslo before receiving a NAVF scholarship for research at the Nansen Institute and Harvard University. From 1962, he was a research fellow in the history of ideas at the University of Oslo, later becoming associate professor in political science in 1968, docent in 1971 and professor in 1975. He studied game theory, international politics and political theory, and chaired the committee behind Norwegian Official Report 1985:17.

Knut Midgaard (11 February 1931 – 30 March 2026) was a Norwegian political scientist.
