Born on December 9, 1977, in Auckland, he played in the National Rugby League for the Parramatta Eels, Northern Eagles and Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks between 1997 and 2002. Lovell also featured in England for the Sheffield Eagles and the merged Sheffield and Huddersfield side in the Super League from 1999 to 2000.
